Individual Project 1

For this project I was curious about pursuing a few different ideas, but ended up deciding on a project based on wildlife photography. The majority of these photos were taken in Maasai Mara National Park. One of the most striking aspects of my time in the park were how comfortable the animals, especially the elephants, were. It is quite the testament to Kenyan Wildlife Services that I was able to get this close to these elephants. In the majority of the other conservations/parks/ countries where elephants can be found, they are rarely seen and extremely skiddish around humans as a result of poaching. The colors and patterns occurring in the natural world have also given me a new source of inspiration, potentially for the next project.

I decided to call this project “Symbiosis” because one of the biggest takeaways of my shooting was seeing how closely everything in an ecosystem works together.

I did some research before and more after my project on a few wildlife photographers. I wish I had done a little more before to gain a broader perspective and more inspiration. I was able to use a zoom lens for some of my shots, and in the future will make it a priority to access one if/when I shoot wildlife again because of how much better the shots turned out when using one.

  1. These photos are so amazing and I guess it wasn’t easy to capture these wild animals. I am so into the picture of zebras with birds on their backs and the moment of movement of it is so vivid.

  2. You had a shot of a mother and baby elephant that I thought was one of the stronger ones. That and the shots where you were close enough to get textures and patterns.

  3. The image that you used for your feature image is definitely my favorite but they are all very strong. The animals are beautiful and you composed your shots really well.
